Tower of God (2020)

Anime Rating: 10 / 7.5

The anime, which is in the Manhwa / Webtoon category because of its origin in South Korea and whose English name is Tower of God, says hello to its audience with a quick introduction. There is a tower in the middle of which we are given only bits of information, and if you can climb to the top of this tower, everything will be yours. At the top of the tower, everything that happens in the world is present and can be yours. You can even be a god on top of the tower. As you can imagine, the journey of different personalities climbing the tower is discussed in this anime.

As I said, the anime makes a very quick introduction, and we meet two characters that we learned that their names are Rachel and Bam. Rachel is on the run; Bam is chasing. Rachel’s goal is to climb the tower and see the stars. Bam’s only wish to see is Rachel, and when Rachel is “teleported” to the tower, she can teleport after. Since Bam is not invited to climb the tower, he is considered No Rules and will undergo a preliminary test. Luckily, Yuri, a Jahad princess, is there and lends her his sword. Bam passes the qualifying test and begins to meet other characters who are subjected to the actual tests to climb the tower. Then, Bam begins to improve herself and learn about life.

The biggest plus of anime is also its minus. It is one of the rare anime that is so fast, with many plots in it, characters are inserted, and the rope is able to work (barely that :). We don’t know what a tower is, what kind of world is out there, we don’t even know it. For example, the stars could only be seen from the top of the tower, and the normal sky was artificial. Where do the people who come for the tests live? It is unclear if there are parallel universes. We see that there are different races, we know that an element named Jahad exists, and we know he is king, but what exactly is the king of? Your tower? Will it be the new king who manages to climb then? In short, you get an answer, and in return, the series offers you three new question marks :) Therefore, as I said, the richness it contains is also the confusing part. Almost every character is asked to participate, and we are subjected to a bombardment of questions over information overload. Moreover, the series is only about the test stages! We haven’t even started climbing officially :)

I want to put a short parenthesis on Bam, the main character. If you watched the anime, they call Bam “Yoru”. I would like to make a short explanation about this. The Turkish equivalent of both Bam and Yoru is Night. In the original Korean version, the main character is called Bam, and in the Japanese dubbing, it was appropriate to call it a night, meaning Yoru in their language. Crunchyroll’s official caption also wanted to stay true to the original. In short, Bam, written by Yoru, but both mean Night.

I can say that the anime’s drawings are different from the anime we are used to. With sharp lines, bright colours, the series alternates between cartoon and anime. He also knows how to spill blood when necessary. Likewise, the moving scenes are equally aesthetic and enjoyable to watch. Likewise, I can say good quality for their music. Both the opening song and the music played during the closing and episodes do not bother you.

Kami no Tou ends with an annoying season finale. I found it appropriate to give the above score with the confusion of the events and the question marks it contains. However, there is a situation like this; The second season does not confuse that much, and if he can clarify some of the answers, the score can even go above nine. The manwha of the series has been going on since 2010, so there is a lot of material and if I think we will be dizzier :)
